BISAS Launches New European Fund to Support EAAP Membership
British & Irish Society of Animal Science (BISAS) has established a new, ring-fenced European Fund to secure ongoing UK membership of the European Federation of Animal Science (EAAP).
EAAP membership brings significant benefits to the UK animal science community. These include access to one of Europe’s largest international networks of animal scientists, reduced EAAP Annual Meeting registration fees (a €300 saving for mem), opportunities to engage in specialist study commissions and working groups, and increased visibility for UK research at a European level. EAAP membership also plays a key role in supporting early-career scientists through networking, training and international collaboration opportunities.
While the Fund’s immediate purpose is to support access to EAAP membership, it is intended to evolve over time to support other aligned initiatives that strengthen international collaboration in animal science.
How the Fund will work
The European Fund creates a structured mechanism for donations from those with an interest in animal science and related sectors. This includes current and former BISAS members, as well as industry and academic stakeholders who recognise the importance of continued UK participation in European animal science collaboration.
BISAS will complement these contributions with dedicated funding, reinforcing our commitment to a shared, sustainable and long-term solution. We will be contacting these groups shortly to invite contributions to the Fund.
Commenting on the initiative, Helen Warren, President of BISAS, said:
“This fund represents a positive and collaborative step forward for BISAS, our members and all UK animal scientists. EAAP membership brings enormous value to UK animal science, from international collaboration to professional development opportunities. We are extremely grateful to those who have already donated to initiate the fund and for their continued support of the UK animal science community.”
BISAS remains firmly committed to supporting UK membership of EAAP and will continue to actively seek financial support for the European Fund. We believe this combined approach offers the most effective way to safeguard our long-standing involvement with EAAP for the benefit of current and future members, and for UK animal science more broadly.
